Rudiments of Design and its Importance.

The Fundamentals or Essential of design is a compass to navigate on how best you can accomplish or ascertain user friendly and appealing design work to clients and organization.

A Design that doesn’t follow the said principles is like a house that does not have a Foundation which can laid upon.

The Principles of design are enlisted below to have crystal clear understanding of the subject matter.

1.Typography:

It is the art that involves the arranging of typeface in various combination of fonts,size and spacing which aid in designs and relay a message to the users.

A Good font or text is a pointer to how the user can feel or attracted to a design which communicate effectively to the users.

There are terms used in typography which are:

  • Hierarchy: This is used to guide a reader to ascertain the most important information(Emphasis) in a design. This emphasis are always in Bold format.
  • Tracking: This is the overall space between characters in order to maintain a perfect flow.
  • Kerning: This is the space between specific characters.
  • Leading: This is the space between lines of text.

2.Colour:

Colour in a design give a beautiful or glowing appearance to a user. in Design generally, Colours make design attractive if they are well integrated and communicate effectively to the users.

Color Theory is the guideline that informs us of the colors that fit together. Artists and designers have followed this theory for centuries and still do until now.

There are various types of colours.

  • Primary Colours
  • Secondary Colours
  • Complementary Colours
  • Semantic Colours
  • Accent Colours.

3. Images:

The Role of Images in designs cannot be overemphasized.

Images gives a feel and empathy in a design as it relays or communicate a message across to the users.

A good and high quality images must be Clear and sharp with no distortion which draws the attention of the users.

A Low Quality image(s) produces a distort and vague design which turns the users off.

4.White Spaces:

White space refers to the areas in your design that do not contain content with no engagement. Areas that contain content are called “positive space”, while areas that contain no content are called “negative space”. The Use of this Principles enhances Clarity and Appearance of design to the users.

5.Layout and Composition.

This is where every element and content of the design are arranged and structured. A well arranged and structured layout gives an appealing and user friendly designs.

There are also other Principles that is not highlighted here which include:

  • Alignment
  • Balance
  • Contrast
  • Emphasis. Etc.

In the world of Designs, The Various principles highlighted above are very key on becoming an exceptional Designer whether in Graphics Design or UI/UX Design which must be taken into consideration.
